Longevity as a Destination

  • TBC

IoCT™ and Destination North East England discuss how Tourism and Longevity sectors can combine to create healthy longevity as a destination.

By leveraging both Tourism and Healthy Longevity, the North of Tyne regions and the businesses within them can create and exploit many opportunities, including:

  • Destinations that nudge us towards good behaviour such as walking tours highlighting art, food, independent stores or historic buildings.
  • Destinations which gather insights on emotions and use them to regenerate areas where people feel unsafe or promote places where people feel happy
  • Destinations that increase inclusivity such as highlighting busy areas, or allowing neurodiverse people the chance to familiarise themselves with a venue/attractions before visiting in person.

The event will talk about how the National Innovation Centre for Ageing and Destination North East England are building a reputation for testing new technologies that not only capture data but use it in innovative new ways to promote healthy longevity, such as:

  • The Benefit of Art and Culture on our well-being – How we can use the emotions of citizens as they experience art, music, wildlife
  • Engaging Citizens – How crowdsourced data can make citizens an active player in the longevity of a city
  • Staying Active – How we can use robots to improve the activity of residents and visitors alike
  • Supporting the tourism industry – How robots can be deployed to automate mundane tasks freeing staff to focus on ensuring visitors not only enjoy their stay but either stay longer or return for another visit
  • Technology, Tourism and the Food and Drink sector

Join IoCT™ and Destination North East England as they discuss how the Tourism and Longevity sectors can combine to create healthy longevity as a destination. They ask the question: Can local authorities shape a proposal centred around longevity to build a value proposition that attracts tourists?

One where every touchpoint matters to engage visitors, promote healthy longevity in engaging visitors and be accessible no matter the culture, the age or the lifestyle.

About the Internet of Caring Things® programme

The Internet of Caring Things® is a network of connected devices and services with a clear mission: to actively care for people – their physical and mental well-being – and what really matters to them – such as leisure, safety and security, pets, planet, sustainability and connecting with family and friends.

A £5.6 million pound project running through to 2027, the Internet of Caring Things® programme is delivered by U.K. National Innovation Centre Ageing (NICA)VOICE® and Centre of Process Innovation (CPI) to support economic growth and improve the health and wellbeing of those living and working in the North of Tyne. Together we are developing the first network of connected objects and cognitive systems with a clear mission: to actively care for people and what matters to them.

This project is part-funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority and Newcastle University, in partnership with Centre of Process Innovation (CPI).

The North of Tyne Combined Authority is a partnership of three local authorities: Newcastle City Council, North Tyneside Council, and Northumberland County Council and the North of Tyne Elected Mayor. Find out more at: https://www.northoftyne-ca.gov.uk/
