Sponsored by the Department for Business & Trade, the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) defends UK economic interests against unfair international trade practices, including:

  • Products from overseas being dumped in the UK at lower prices than in their home markets
  • Subsidies provided by foreign government giving their producers an unfair advantage.

The TRA investigates whether new trade remedies are needed to prevent injury to UK industries caused by unfair trading practices and unforeseen surges in imports.

The TRA can impose measures - usually in the form of tariffs at the border - to level the playing field for UK producers impacted by this unfair competition.

If a business comes to the TRA with evidence of wrongdoing, it can launch an investigation via its Trade Remedies Service to defend the rights of British firms and companies. The TRA’s interactive case tracker shows the progress of each case as it goes through the investigation lifecycle.
